John Stephen Choberka, 81, of Las Vegas passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023 at his home alongside his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Stephen, and grandson, Gavin Michael. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances Diana, children Stephanie (Shane) Canon of Pleasant Hill, CA, Andrew (Jody) of Alexandria, OH, Paul of Spartanburg, SC, John (Britta) of Haymarket, VA, Michael of Manchester, NH and Anne of Myrtle Beach, SC. Grandchildren include Rachel Claire, Halle Jeanine and Casey Shane of California, Andrew Jake, Jana Lin, Jillian Louise and Jennie Laura of Ohio and Emma Laurel, Elise Marie, Eva Lynn, Julia Rose and Johnny Stephen of Virginia.
John grew up in Stroudsburg, PA, graduating from Stroudsburg High School. In high school he was “Homecoming King” yet never shared this with his children until someone found his yearbook. He also graduated from Lehigh University (PA), where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Society, and immediately located to Columbus, Ohio following graduation where he met his future wife. He raised his children in Columbus until 1976, and Spartanburg, South Carolina until 1993. His life took him and his family to Olathe, Kansas, Westerville, Ohio, Myrtle Beach, SC, and other places to be close to his children and grandchildren.
